I am a professor of Religion and Culture at Wilfrid Laurier University and a writer. I hold a doctorate, and MA in Sociology, from York University, and a BA in Sociology from the University of Toronto.
My research focuses on Black Church studies in Canada, Caribbean religions in transnational and diasporic contexts and religion and popular culture. I held a fellowship in the Women’s Studies in Religion Program and served as a visiting professor at Harvard Divinity School. I served as an academic consultant and appeared in the award-winning documentary Seeking Salvation: A History of the Black Church in Canada (Travesty Productions, 2004).
