Undergraduate Research Initiatives
The Faculty of Liberal Arts (FLA) spearheads a number of exciting projects to create and promote a culture of undergraduate research at Laurier. Our initiatives provide a range of support for students to develop their research skills and to showcase their research on and off campus.
If you have any questions our initiatives, contact FLAAdmin@wlu.ca.
Undergraduate Research Apprenticeship Program
Our Undergraduate Research Apprenticeship Program provides exceptional students with the opportunity to pair with faculty mentors to develop and conduct innovative research projects. Students selected for the program receive a research award generously funded by the Race family.
Academic, Creative and Engaged Research Showcase
Our annual Academic, Creative and Engaged Research Showcase (ACERS) features student conferences, workshops, special lectures and presentations. The showcase fosters and celebrates undergraduate research at Laurier, while giving students the chance to win cash prizes for their projects.
Bridges: An Undergraduate Journal of Contemporary Connections
Bridges: An Undergraduate Journal of Contemporary Connections is a free, online journal that publishes top quality essays and reviews by Laurier undergraduate students. With thousands of downloads and an international readership, Bridges offers students a unique opportunity to share their work and gain valuable academic publishing experience.
Writers submit essays, research papers or book reviews throughout the year, which are anonymously reviewed by a team of student reviewers, following the typical academic peer-reviewed process. Student editors oversee the entire process and take responsibility for the final editing and publication of all material.
Students can get involved as writers, peer-reviewers and/or editors of the journal. To learn more, visit the Bridges website or contact Bruce Gillespie (bgillespie@wlu.ca), journal faculty advisor, and Christin Taylor (ctaylor@wlu.ca), staff advisor.
